Health & Safety at Work Act (HSWA) Guidelines for Lone Workers

While the interpretation of the HSWA Guidelines as they apply to remote and isolated work are fairly ambiguous, what is clear, is that workers must have “effective” communication at all times.

It is also clear that sometimes your cell phone may not be enough – visualise trying to fish out your phone, dial 111, have a conversation with an operator about what services you need, and where exactly you are, while being bailed up by a person or animal, or having fallen over and knocked yourself out.
